Ubuntu Saner Defaults Remix
Ubuntu Saner Defaults Remix is a special operating system derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and designed from the ground up as an alternative with a different software selection than the upstream Ubuntu version.
This Ubuntu Remix comes with 32-bit and 64-bit Live CDs
As its name might suggest, the project is an Ubuntu derivative with a saner default software collection. It is available for download as Live CD ISO images, one that includes software packages optimized for the x86_64 (64-bit) architecture and another one with apps optimized for the 32-bit (x86) hardware platform.
In other words, you must download the 32-bit Live CD if your computer is old and slow, or grab the 64-bit Live CD for modern computers. The ISO images are hybrid and can be written to either CD discs or USB thumb drives of 1GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a computer.
Try Ubuntu Saner Defaults Remix without installing it
Being based on Ubuntu, the distro comes with a boot menu that is identical with the one of the upstream operating system. It allows you to try the distribution without installing it, directly start the installer, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the local drive.
GNOME Classic is the default graphical desktop environment
Ubuntu Saner Defaults Remix uses Ubuntu’s default graphical desktop environment, GNOME Classic, but with a different theme. The two-panel layout is present and allows the user to easily navigate the main menu, launch applications, interact with running programs and cycle between virtual workspaces.
The default software collection is richer than Ubuntu’s
Default applications include the OpenOffice.org office suite, Totem movie player, Shotwell photo viewer and manager, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger and Transmission torrent downloader.
