As its name suggests, Ubuntu GNOME Remix is an Ubuntu distribution built around the modern GNOME desktop environment. It features both the GNOME Shell and GNOME Fallback graphical interfaces.

The OS is available for download as Live DVDs and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures

Users can download Ubuntu GNOME Remix as Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1GB in size each, which means that they will have to write them to DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 1GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a computer. Both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported by the distribution.

Boot prompt à la Ubuntu Linux

The boot prompt is identical with the one of the official Ubuntu OS, which means that the user can try the operating system without installing it, start the installer directly, perform a DVD media check, run a memory test or boot an existing OS from the first disk drive detected by the BIOS.

GNOME Classic is includes, but GNOME Shell is the default interface

The default graphical desktop environment of Ubuntu GNOME Remix is GNOME Shell, which GNOME Classic (gnome-panel 3) is included but GNOME Shell is the default session if your hardware supports it.

Includes both GNOME-specific applications and third-party ones

The distribution includes both GNOME-specific applications and third-party ones, such as Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Transmission torrent downloader, Rhythmbox music player, Evolution email and calendar client, AbiWord word processor, Epiphany web browser, Cheese webcam viewer, Gwibber social networking client, Simple Scan image scanner, GNOME Tweak Tool and the entire GNOME Games collection.

The distribution is now an official Ubuntu flavor known as Ubuntu GNOME

A few years later, Ubuntu GNOME Remix has been accepted as an official Ubuntu flavor and it is now known as Ubuntu GNOME, downloadable from Softpedia. This version is old and it is no longer supported. It has been archived for historical purposes only.
