UberStudent LXDE is a freely distributed and open source operating system, a special edition of the UberStudent distribution built around the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) project. Just like the main UberStudent edition, this flavor is based on the Ubuntu OS.
Available only as a 32-bit Live CD
The LXDE edition of UberStudent is available for download as a single Live CD ISO image that has been tagged with the i386 architecture. This means that you will be able to boot and install the operating system on either a 32-bit or a 64-bit capable computer, but use only 32-bit applications.
The boot options are quite standard
The Live CD comes with a standard boot loader that includes the ability to start the live system with default boot options or in safe graphics mode, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating sytem from the first drive.
LXDE uses a two-panel layout
As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment is LXDE, which uses an unexpected two-panel layout that looks identical with the one of the main UberStudent edition.
Includes popular and useful open source applications
The operating system includes popular open source applications, among which we can mention the Google Chrome web browser, Asunder Audio-CD ripper, GNOME MPlayer, Guayadeque music player, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software and Leafpad text editor.
In conclusion, the LXDE edition of UberStudent is a great distribution of Linux that includes numerous lightweight open source applications, as well as a wide range of web apps, which means that it’s a very fast operating system suitable for low-end computers or machines with old and semi-old hardware components.
Please note that in order to use it, you must first write the ISO image to a CD disc or a USB flash drive of 1GB or higher capacity, and then boot it from the BIOS of a computer.
