TurnKey Tomcat Live CD is a freely distributed project that provides users with a stable and reliable appliance build around the Tomcat open source JSP and Java servlet application and based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system.

Key features include upstream Tomcat configurations, a powerful MySQL database server, support for secure connections using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) specification, Webmin administration front-end, a SSH (Secure Shell) server, and a Postfix mail server for sending email messages from web apps.

in addition, the appliance binds the Tomcat HTTP connector to port 80 and the SSL interface to port 443, uses the OpenJDK Java runtine environment, includes the TurnKey web control panel, and features Java and Tomcat system wide environment variables.

By default, the web apps are installed in /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps, and, for security reasons, the AJP connector has been disabled on port 8009. Tomcat admin user and manager/admin roles have also been created.

While the default username for the Webmin, SSH and MySQL components is root, the default Tomcat username is admin. During the first boot configuration process, which takes place right after the installation, users will be able to set a new root (system administrator) password, set a password for the MySQL 'root' account and for the Tomcat 'admin' account.

Additionally, you can initialize the TurnKey Migration, Backup, Domain Management and Dynamic DNS services. The server can be rebooted or shutdown via SSH or directly from the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console, which also allows users to configure the network interfaces and view the active services of the appliance, including their IP addresses and ports.

This TurnKey appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, as well as virtual machines in the OVF, OpenVZ, OpenNode, OpenStack and Xen formats. Both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures are supported at this time.
