changelog

TurnKey Domain Controller Live CD is a free and open source software appliance distributed as an operating system based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux distro and designed from the ground up to be used for deploying dedicated Samba-based PDC servers.

Domain Controller is an open source Samba-based drop-in replacement for the Windows PDC (Primary Domain Controller) server. The appliance comes with all of the upstream Domain Controller configurations, the TurnKey Web Control panel, and out-of-the-box support for SSL connections.

In addition, the appliance features a Webmin module for configuring Samba, AjaXplorer for securely accessing your files from virtually anywhere, as well as a utility for converting text file endings between DOS and UNIX formats.

It lets users to set the Samba domain name during the first boot configuration process, and includes the PDC NetBIOS name, Samba related groups, group mapping for Samba Domain Admins and Samba Domain Users, and a Samba administrator account.

Pre-configured UNIX and Samba group/user synchronization is also included in this TurnKey appliance, along with a netlogon service, roaming profiles, and printing support. The default username for the Webmin, SSH, MySQL and Web Shell components is root.

It is also important to mention here that the default username for Samba is administrator, and the default AjaXplorer username is admin (Local) / administrator (Samba). The appliance is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit).

In addition to the Live CDs, TurnKey Domain Controller is also available as virtual machine image for the OVF, OpenVZ, OpenNode, Xen and OpenStack virtualization technologies, running only on the x86_64 architecture.

The Live CDs can be used to try or install the operating system on any computer. At the end of the installation process, you will be able to control the server though the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console.
