TurnKey CodeIgniter Live CD Review by
5.0/5

TurnKey CodeIgniter Live CD is an open source operating system designed from the ground up to be used by people who are looking for a free and easy-to-use solution for deploying dedicated CodeIgniter servers with minimum effort. It is based on the award winning, stable and reliable Debian GNU/Linux distribution.

CodeIgniter is an open source and powerful PHP framework that provides exceptional performance and has a small footprint, offering an elegant and simple toolkit to all PHP developers. The appliance comes with all of the upstream CodeIgniter configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/codeigniter.

Key features include out-of-the-box support for secure connections using the latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) implementation, the phpMyAdmin administration front-end for easy management of MySQL databases, a Postfix mail server for sending emails to users, and Webmin modules for configuring MySQL, Postfix, PHP and Apache.

The appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which can be written to CD discs or USB flash drives. They are usually used for installing the operating system on the disk drive of a computer, but can also be tested without installing anything.

In addition to the Live CDs, the appliance is available for download as virtual machine images for the OpenStack, Xen, OVF, OpenVZ and OpenNode virtualization technologies. While the Live CDs are supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, the VMs are designed only for amd64 hardware platforms.

When using this TurnKey appliance to deploy CodeIgniter servers, users should keep in mind that the default username for the SSH, Webmin, MySQL and phpMyAdmin components is root, and that the Postfix mail server is bound to localhost and phpMyAdmin listens on port 12322 via SSL.

You can view the IP addresses and ports of the active services (SSH, phpMyAdmin, SFTP, Web Shell and Webmin) at the end of the installation, so don't forget to write them down on a piece of paper.
