StartCom Enterprise Linux
StartCom Enterprise Linux is a freely distributed operating system derived from the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution and the open source Fedora Linux distribution. It is designed with stability, reliability and ease of use in mind.
It’s distributed as 32-bit/64-bit installable-only ISO images
The StartCom Enterprise Linux operating system can be easily compared with the CentOS distributions, as it is based on the freely available sources of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It’s distributed as 32-bit/64-bit installable-only ISO images that must be written on DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 4GB (for the 32-bit edition) and 8GB (for the 64-bit flavor).
Boot menu a la Red Hat Enterprise Linux
The boot menu looks identical with the one of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, designed to allow the user to start the installation in graphics or text mode, as well as to rescue a broken operating system. In addition, you can pass extra parameters to the kernel.
Easy to use graphical installer
We recommend to use the graphical installer to install the StartCom Enterprise Linux operating system on your computer. It will require you to choose a language to use for the installation script the final system, select a keyboard layout, partition the disk, configure the network interfaces, select a timezone and configure the system clock, enter a password for the root (system administrator) account, select and install software.
The default desktop environment is GNOME
The distro uses the GNOME Classic desktop environment for the graphical interface, providing users with an old-school and productive session that contains a wide-range of useful applications, among which we can mention Blender, aMule, GIMP, gFTP, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird and many others.
