sonar GNU/Linux is an open source distribution of Linux built off of the latest stable version of the Manjaro operating system, which in turn is based on Arch Linux. It was previously based on the openSUSE, Ubuntu and Debian GNU/Linux OSes. It used GNOME as the default graphical desktop environment.

sonar GNU/Linux is distributed as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64). You must write these ISO images to DVD discs or USB thumb drives in order to boot them from the BIOS of a PC.

The boot screen is very similar with the one used in many openSUSE-based operating systems. It will allow you to start the live environment with free or non-free drivers, view detailed hardware information, boot an existing OS from the local drive, change the screen resolution and language, add extra kernel parameters or run a memory diagnostic test.

As mentioned, GNOME is in charge of the graphical session inside Sonar GNU/Linux. It is a pure, untouched version of GNOME that features a single panel located on the upper side of the screen, allowing you to easily launch applications or interact with running programs.

The distribution includes a great selection of free software, among which we can mention VLC Media Player, Totem video player, SoundConverter audio converter, Banshee audio player, Cheese webcam viewer, GIMP image editor, HexChat IRC client and LibreOffice office suite.

In conclusion, sonar GNU/Linux comes with a lot of cool features and a great selection of free software, but its strong point is the assistive technology functionality, making it one the most accessible Linux operating system.
