A Debian-based Live CD distribution of Linux that uses the Xfce desktop environment

editor's review

Snowlinux Xfce is a freely distributed and open source operating system that uses a highly modified version of the lightweight Xfce desktop environment on top of a stable Debian GNU/Linux base.

Available for download as 32-bit and 64-bit Live DVDs

The Xfce edition of Snowlinux is available for download as 32-bit and 64-bit Live DVD ISO images, which must be burned onto DVD discs using any CD/DVD burning software or written on USB flash drives of 1GB or higher capacity using UNetbootin or Disks (GNOME) applications.

Minimal set of boot options

The boot menu presents you with the ability to start the live environment with default drivers or in failsafe mode (in case the first options won’t recognize some of your hardware components), perform a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first drive.

Beautiful and clean desktop environment powered by Xfce

This Snowlinux edition uses a beautiful and clean graphical interface that is powered by Xfce, a traditional, fast and lightweight desktop environment, using a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen from where you can quickly access the preinstalled applications or interact with opened programs.

Includes a great selection of open source apps

Default applications include the Thunar file manager, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, Rhythmbox music player, Totem video player, and AbiWord word processor.

Bottom line

Summing up, the Xfce edition of Snowlinux is yet another fast, powerful, productive and modern operating system powered by Debian GNU/Linux and the lightweight Xfce desktop environment. Also, do not hesitate to check out other Snowlinux editions, with the MATE, Enlightenment or Cinnamon desktop environments.
