Sabayon Linux Minimal
Sabayon Linux Minimal is an open source and completely free Linux operating system based on the Gentoo distribution and designed to deliver one of the best out-of-the-box user experience, by offering all the latest Linux technologies in an elegant format.
Availability, supported platforms, boot options
The Minimal edition of Sabayon Linux is designed from the ground up to provide users with a minimalistic environment powered by the Fluxbox window manager, despite the fact that it is distributed as Live CD ISO images of approximately 1GB in size.
Sabayon Linux is also distributed as KDE, GNOME, Xfce and SpinBase editions, released every month, and compatible only with the 64-bit architectures. The ISO images are hybrid, which means that they can be written to USB flash drives or DVD discs.
The Ubuntu-style boot prompt lets users to start the operating system with default settings, without installing anything on their computers, or in safe, debug or console modes. In addition, it can be used to run a memory diagnostic test or install the distribution on a local disk drive.
Minimal desktop environment with a minimal set of apps
As mentioned, the distribution features a minimalistic graphical session, using the Fluxbox window manager. It comprises of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can interact with running apps, as well as to switch between virtual workspaces.
The main menu can be accessed by right clicking anywhere on the desktop. Default applications include the XTerm terminal emulator, Lynx web browser, ALSA mixer, Top system monitoring utility, nano text editor, as well as a VNC viewer.
