SLAMPP Live CD For Linux

SLAMPP Live CD is an open source and freely distributed operating system that delivers a pre-configured home server which runs entirely from a Live DVD or USB. It uses the lightweight Xfce as its default and only graphical desktop environment and was built using the Linux Live scripts.

The Live CD edition of the SLAMPP Linux operating system can be downloaded from Softpedia or via the official homepage (see link above) as a dual-arch and hybrid Live DVD ISO image that will boot on computers supporting either of the 32-bit or 64-bit instruction set architectures.

The project provides users with an instant home server system that runs only in live mode. From the Live DVD boot menu, you can start SLAMPP with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, in case your graphics card is not recognized by the first boot options. It is also possible to perform a system memory diagnostic test.

By default, users will be dropped to a login prompt where they need to use the “root” username and the “slampp” password to log into the graphical session, which is powered by the Xfce desktop environment. It uses a modern layout comprises of a top panel and a bottom dock (application launcher).

Beings designed to act as a portable LAMPP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl) operating system, SLAMPP Live CD contains a vast amount of server-oriented tools, among which we can mention the powerful Apache web server, ProFTPd, GProFTPD and vsftpd FTP servers, Sendmail and Dovecot email servers, Samba file sharing server, SSH (Secure Shell) server and BIND DNS server.

In addition to the above, the SLAMPP operating system comes pre-loaded with programming tools and other useful utilities, such as the Bluefish HTML editor, Webmin web-based system administration software, Firehol Linux firewall, Nagios system monitoring program, Mozilla Firefox web browser, QEMU machine emulator, GIMP image editor, Blender 3D modeller and ClamAV antivirus.
