A Debian-based distribution of Linux built around the RCP100 modular IP router control plane. #IP router #Linux router #Linux distribution #IP #Router #Firewall
RCPlive’s main purpose is to act as a flexible routing and firewalling platform, which can be easily configured by system administrators via the command-line interface (it features a syntax similar to the one found in commercial routers).
The RCPlive project is distributed as a minimal Live CD ISO image, supporting only 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms. This means that you won’t be able to boot the operating system on computers supporting only the 32-bit (i686) instruction set architecture. It can be installed locally or used directly from a persistent USB stick.
The Live CD boot menu has a minimal design too, providing users with the ability to start the live system with normal configuration or in failsafe mode. You will be able to press the Tab key on a highlighted option to edit it. The ISO image can also be written on a CD disc in order to boot it from the BIOS of a computer.
The default username/password combination used for the Live CD are rcp/rcp. You will need to use them at the shell prompt, where you will be automatically dropped in a few seconds after the Live CD boots. Then, you will see the rcp prompt, where you can execute various commands to the RCP100 modular IP router control plane.
Being built around the RCP100 router software and designed from the ground up to be as minimal as possible, the RCPlive operating system features no display server and no graphical desktop environment or window manager. Except for the RCP100 router suite, Linux kernel and several other essential packages, it doesn’t provide you with any other packages.
RCP100 is an open source software project that provides users with a modular IP router supported on any GNU/Linux operating system and designed to be used as a standalone router or in an embedded environment.
