PCLinuxOS Br Edition Razor-Qt
PCLinuxOS Br Edition Razor-qt is an open source Linux-based operating system built on top of the lightweight Razor-qt desktop environment and using the latest stable base of the well known PCLinuxOS distribution.
The main goal of the PCLinuxOS Br project is to offer a nice collection of Linux distributions, with different desktop environments, for the Brazilian Linux community. The default language used in these operating systems is Brazilian Portuguese.
Availability and boot options
It is distributed as a single and hybrid Live DVD ISO image, which can be used as-is, from either a blank DVD disc, or a USB flash drive. From the boot prompt, you can start a live session, drop to a shell prompt, or install the operating system without testing it (not recommended).
It is very important to mention here that after installing this edition, uses are required to select the session as Razordesktop from the login screen before entering the username and password. Press OK, and after entering the credentials, select the “Make the default session” option.
Modern Qt/KDE desktop, simple and useful applications
The Razor-qt session appears to be a pure, unmodified one, providing users with a single taskbar located at the bottom edge of the screen, and a clock widget on the desktop. The taskbar is used for accessing the main menu, launch apps, interact with running programs, as well as the system tray area.
Default applications include the Evince document viewer, Leafpad text editor, SimpleBurn CD/DVD burning tool, File Roller archive manager, PCManFM file manager, BleachBit system cleaner, XnViewMP image viewer, Parcellite clipboard manager, Mozilla Firefox web browser, GNOME MPlayer video player, and Synaptic Package Manager.
Overall, PCLinuxOS Br Edition Razor-qt offers a very nice, modern and low on resources operating system for low-end computers. It is a good replacement for the complex and resource hungry KDE flavor of the PCLinuxOS Br project. It uses only 120MB of RAM during the start-up process!
