Moonlux For Linux

Moonlux is an open source distribution of Linux based on the world’s most popular operating system, Ubuntu. It features an attractive graphical desktop interface powered by Cinnamon and includes support for Chinese languages.

This custom Ubuntu distribution can be downloaded via Softpedia or from its official website (see link above) as Live DVD ISO images, designed to support both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms. You must write the ISO images to DVD discs or USB flash drives in order to boot them from the BIOS of a PC.

Being based on Ubuntu, it features a standard boot menu that allows you to start the live environment with default boot options or in safe graphics mode, boot an existing operating system from the local drive, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD media) or start the graphical installer directly.

As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of this custom Ubuntu operating system is powered by Cinnamon, which features a dock (application launcher) on the bottom edge of the screen, as well as a top panel from where you can launch applications or interact with running programs.

Default applications include the Chromium web browser, LibreOffice office suite, Banshee music player, VLC Media Player, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, as well as the AWN (Avant Window Navigator) dock.

In conclusion, Moonlux is an attractive Linux operating system that uses a beautified Cinnamon graphical desktop environment on top of a stable Ubuntu base, which proved to be very responsive on low-end machines and computers with old and semi-old hardware components. However, it has been designed only for Chinese-speaking users.
