Microlinux Enterprise Desktop For Linux

Microlinux Enterprise Desktop (MLED) is an open source distribution of Linux based on the well known Slackware operating system and built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment. It’s main target are experienced Slackware/Linux users who want a reliable and stable system.

The distro is currently used by various public libraries, local radio stations, schools, and small town halls in South France. It is comprised of several hundreds custom Slackware packages, which are installed on top of an unaltered Slackware system.

Key features include a rock-solid Slackware base, sober and elegant artwork, out-of-the-box support for multimedia files, user-friendly settings, intuitive menu entries, themed login manager, Slackware branding, desktop effects, fonts, plugins, and much more.

As mentioned, MLED’s target audience are advanced Linux users who know what they are doing. Because of this, the operating system is not available for download as a standard ISO image, but only as binary files that can be installed on top of a Slackware installation.

Default applications include the Mozilla Thunderbird ESR email client, Mozilla Firefox ESR web browser, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission BitTorrent client, Apache OpenOffice office suite, gThumb image viewer, SMPlayer video player, and Audacious audio player.

It comes with the gFTP file transfer client, Asunder Audio-CD extractor, aMule P2P client, Evince document viewer, GIMP image editor, Openshot video editor, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, Audacity audio editor, Conky system monitor, and dvd::rip video extractor.

Microlinux Enterprise Desktop includes various useful utilities, such as Inkscape vector graphics, EasyTag ID3 tagger, MuPDF browser plugin for viewing PDF files, Xarchiver archiver tool, Leafpad text editor, Catfish file search tool, Thunar file manager, and Gnote note-taking app.
