MeNoTu is an open source distribution of Linux bssed on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and built around the Unity desktop environment. It includes a wide range of applications designed for CAD and CAE professionals.
Users can download this Ubuntu-based distribution through Softpedia or directly from the project’s official website as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 4GB in size, designed to support only 64-bit hardware platforms.
While the ISO image has been instructed to automatically start the live environment with default boot options from the moment the user boots it from the BIOS of a PC, the boot menu can be unveiled by pressing any key during the 7-second timeout.
From the boot menu, the user can start the graphical installer directly to permanently install the distribution on a local disk drive, boot an existing operating system from the first disk, perform a RAM test, as well as to check the integrity of the disc (only if using a CD media).
Being based on Ubuntu, the operating system described here uses Unity, a modern and productive desktop environment that comprises of a dock (application launcher) located on the left side of the screen and a top panel for easy interaction with running programs.
Among the included CAE (computer-aided engineering) and CAD (computer-aided design) applications, we can mention the GNU Octave high-level programming language, Scilab numerical computational software, OpenFOAM CFD software, Eclipse IDE, Code::Blocks IDE, FreeCAD parametric 3D modeler, LibreCAD CAD application and QtOctave GNU Octave front-end.
Overall, MeNoTu has been designed from the ground up as a complete software solution for professional 3D finite element analysis from computer-aided design geometry.
