editor's review

LliureX Client is an open source distribution of Linux based on the famous Edubuntu operating system. It features full support for Valencian and Spanish languages, with additional language modules for other regional languages of Spain, as well as English, French, German, Arabic, Russian and Romanian.

Distributed in multiple editions as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs

The operating system is distributed in multiple editions, including Client, Desktop, Kids, Lightweight, Music, Advanced Music and Server. Each edition is available for download as 32-bit and 64-bit Live DVDs or Live CDs with sizes ranging from 700MB to 4GB.

Boot options

Being based on Ubuntu, the distribution features a boot menu that looks like the on implemented in the Ubuntu/Edubuntu Live DVDs, but with a custom background.

From here, the user will be able to try the operating system without installing anything, start the graphical installer directly, check the disk for defects, test the memory for errors, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.

Educational-oriented desktop environment and applications

The graphical desktop interface of the Client edition of LliureX Linux is powered by GNOME, which provides users with a single-panel layout and a familiar design.

Among the preinstalled educational-oriented applications, we can mention the FreeMind mind mapping tool, TuxType typing tutor, GCompris educational suite, GNU Solfege ear training program, Stellarium planetarium software, and the entire LibreOffice office suite.

Default applications include the Transmission torrent downloader, FileZilla file transfer client, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Polly Twitter client and Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Bottom line

This the Client edition of LliureX, which has been designed from the ground up to extend the traditional classroom model in order to allow interconnection of different classrooms. You should also try the other editions of LliureX, as they are all available for download on Softpedia.
