LinuxBBQ LXDE is an open source distribution of Linux based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment. It has been designed from the ground up to be used on low-end machines or computers with old hardware components.
Distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit Live CDs
The LXDE edition of LinuxBBQ is distributed as 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) Live CD ISO images of approximately 400MB in size, which must be burned onto blank CD discs or written on USB flash drives of 512MB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a PC.
Among the boot options, we can mention the ability to start the live environment with default settings, with support for Intel video cards, in VGA mode, with the ‘nomode’ options, by copying the contents of the bootable medium to RAM, in failsafe mode, with SysV, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot from the first disk drive.
Clean, super fast and easy-to-use desktop environment powered by LXDE
The LXDE desktop environment included in this special LinuxBBQ edition is clean, super fast and easy-to-use, comprised of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, which allows users to launch applications, interact with running programs, as well as to access system tray functions.
Default applications include the Leafpad text editor, Iceweasel web browser, DeaDBeaF audio player, GNOME MPlayer video player, Radio Tray radio player, Midnight Commander twin-panel file manager and GDebi package installer for Debian/Ubuntu DEB files.
In conclusion, the LXDE edition of LinuxBBQ proves to be a great operating system that uses an extra fast desktop environment on top of a very stable Debian base. We strongly recommend to install it on low-end machines. Please note that the password and username combination for the Live CDs is ‘bbq’.
