Likinux For Linux

Likinux is an open source and completely free operating system derived from the world’s most popular distribution of Linux, Ubuntu, and designed to act as a desktop-oriented OS for Greek-speaking users.

The OS has been designed in such a way to be as user-friendly as possible. It can be used by students, teachers and unskilled users. For the user’s convenience, it is distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image.

Being distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image, the operating system contains software packages optimized for both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architectures.

The user must deploy the ISO image to a DVD disc or a USB flash drive of 4GB or higher capacity in order to boot the live distribution from the BIOS of a computer.

Among the boot options available on the boot menu, we can mention that ability to start the live system with normal settings, in safe graphics mode, in text only mode, in debug mode, start the graphical installer directly, perform a system memory test, as well as to boot from the local drive.

Likinux’s default and only graphical desktop environment is powered by Ubuntu’s controversial Unity user interface, which provides users with a modern, productive and attractive desktop. It has been tweaked with custom icon and desktop themes.

Being distributed as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 4GB in size, Likinux contains a wide range of open source applications, among which we can mention Audacity, AcetoneISO, Mozilla Firefox, aMule, avast! Antivirus, GIMP, FileZilla, Celestia, Google Chrome, Bluefish, Wine, Geany, Google Earth and HomeBank.
