An Open Source Linux operating system based on Ubuntu and designed for Windows users. #Leo Tech Linux #LTOS Linux #Linux distribution #LTOS #Leo Tech #Linux
Leo Tech OS (also known as LTOS) is a completely free distribution of Linux based on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and designed for Microsoft Windows users who want to migrate to an open source OS.
This custom Ubuntu flavor is created by members of the Ubuntu Linux community and can be downloaded from its official website or via Softpedia (see link above) as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 3GB in size, designed to support both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.
Being an Ubuntu spin, the distro’s Live DVD image features a standard boot prompt that allows the user to start the live environment with default boot options or in safe graphics mode, directly start the installer to permanently install the OS on a local drive, run a RAM diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk.
Leo Tech OS offers various desktop environments that have been designed to look and act like the default graphical sessions of the Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 7 OSes. These include GNOME Classic, LTOS Desktop, LXDE, Openbox, and Unity (Unity 3D, Unity 2D and Unity Openbox). Be aware that you should select the Guest Session when using the Live DVD!
It also includes various useful applications, such as the Kingsoft Office, which is very similar to the Microsoft Office 2010 suite, Minecraft, Steam client for Linux, Eclipse IDE, VLC Media Player, GIMP, Android SDK, QT Creator, luckyBackup, and a custom software center application, which is based on the Ubuntu Software Center app.
In conclusion, Leo Tech OS is a decent operating system that we would like to tag it with the “under construction” term, as it doesn’t provide a viable solution for Windows users who want to migrate to an open source OS.
