A single purpose distribution of Linux based on Debian GNU/Linux and the MySQL database server

editor's review

Kuine Linux MySQL is an open source and completely free distribution of Linux based off of Debian GNU/Linux and designed from the ground up to act as an appliance for deploying dedicated MySQL servers with minimum effort and without paying for expensive products.

It’s available for download as 32-bit/64-bit Live CDs

The MySQL version of Kuine Linux is available for download as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (x86).

The ISO images are hybrid, writable on CD discs or USB sticks

Being designed from the ground up to be hybrid, the ISO images are writable on either CD discs using any CD/DVD burning software or on USB flash drives using the UNetbootin or GNOME Disk Utility (Disks) applications.

Run the live system in normal or failsafe mode

Among the boot options displayed on the boot menu, which appears immediately after booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, we can mention the ability to run the live system in normal or failsafe mode, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot from the local drive.

You can configure the server via a web browser

The user will arrive to a command-line menu when booting the live system. It will display the location of the web-based administrative interface, which requires the admin/admin username and password combination.

The command-line menu allows you to configure or install the server

From the command-line menu, the user can configure various things, such as server’s hostname, email alerts, network interfaces and root (system administrator) password, install the operating system on a local drive, view server’s status, check running services, access activation code.

You can easily enable the graphical desktop environment

Kuine Linux MySQL contains a graphical desktop environment powered by Xfce, which can be easily enabled from the Admin section of the command-line menu and includes various MySQL administration utilities, the Midori web browser, Thunar file manager, as well as a few other basic tools.
