A Live Linux operating designed for people who want to surf the Internet anonymously

editor's review

Jondo Live-CD is a completely free and open source distribution of Linux derived from the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system and designed from the ground up to keep user’s data safe, as well as its privacy when surfing the Internet. It features the lightweight Xfce desktop environment.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image

You can download this Debian-based operating system as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, suitable for both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) computers. Please note that you must write the ISO image on a DVD disc of a USB flash drive in order to boot it from the BIOS of a PC.

Supported in eight languages

From the boot screen, the user can choose its favorite language before booting the live OS. Supported languages include English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Swedish and Polish. There are no other boot entries.

Lightweight and traditional desktop environment powered by Xfce

When arriving at the graphical session, a small dialog will prompt the user to set a password for the live account. However, this is not a requirement for using the distribution, so you can skip it. The desktop environment uses a traditional setup and it is powered by Xfce, which means that it’s very snappy on old computers.

Includes various tools for keeping your anonymity protected

The distro comes with standard applications, as well as various tools for keeping your anonymity protected. Among some of the most important ones, we can mention Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Pidgin, VLC Media Player, Metadata Anonymization Toolkit, Tor with proxy clients, JonDonym, I2P, Mixmaster and Mixminion.

Bottom line

Summing up, Jondo Live-CD is a really great distribution of Linux if you are on the go all the time, you don’t trust anyone and you want to always remain anonymous while surfing the Internet from your personal laptop or any other computer that supports USB boot.
