Icefeast Linux is an open source distribution of Linux derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, built around the GNOME desktop environment and designed to be as modern and easy to use as possible.

It’s available for download as a dual-arch Live DVD

This Ubuntu derivative is available for download as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, writable on a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity. It supports both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

Boot menu à la Ubuntu Linux

The Live DVD image is identical in functionality with the one of the Ubuntu Linux distribution, which means that it will start the live system automatically in seven seconds from the moment the user boots it from the BIOS of a computer.

It features a boot menu à la Ubuntu Linux, which can be revealed by pressing any key on your keyboard during the 7-second timeout, designed to allow you to try the operating system without installing it, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD disc), perform a system memory diagnostic test, start the installer directly or boot from the local drive.

The graphical desktop environment has a unique look

Being designed to be as modern and easy to use as possible, Icefeast Linux boasts a unique graphical user interface that comprises of a dock (application launcher and task manager) and a small panel that includes the main menu and system tray area, both located on the bottom edge of the screen.

Contains a great set of open-source programs

Default applications include the Gedit text editor, GIMP image editor, LibreOffice office suite, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Gwibber microblogging client, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Transmission torrent downloader, Google Chrome web browser, Evolution email and calendar client, Miro video and music player, VLC Media Player, Moovia Media Center, Banshee music player, Totem video player, BleachBit system cleaner, PiTiVi video editor, Wine and Synaptic Package Manager.

It’s based on Ubuntu 11.04 and is no longer under active development

Currently, the Icefeast Linux operating system is based on the deprecated Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) distribution and will no longer receive software updates and security patches. It has been archived for historical purposes only.
