ICABIAN is an open source Linux operating system designed to provide users with a complete, beautiful and simple Debian GNU/Linux based desktop-oriented operating system geared towards Spanish-speaking students. It features the GNOME Classic desktop environment.
Distributed as a 32-bit Live DVDThe distro can be downloaded via Softpedia or directly from its official website (see link above) as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 2.5GB in size, suitable for 32-bit or 64-bit hardware platforms. Be aware though, that it supports only 32-bit applications.
Boot optionsThere’s only a single boot option on this Debian-based distribution and it will automatically be activated in 5 seconds from the moment the user boots the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, using either a DVD disc or USB flash drive. However, it is possible to click the Tab key on your keyboard to edit the boot entry and add extra kernel parameters.
GNOME Classic with a two-panel layoutAs mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of this Debian-based operating system is GNOME Classic, which uses a two-panel layout. Keep in mind though, that the default language for the live session is Spanish (it can be changed during the installation process).
Includes a wide range of educational appsBeing designed for students, the distro includes a wide range of educational apps, among which we can mention the Maxima algebra system, Arduino IDE, Blender 3D modeller, FreeCAD and LibreCAD CAD applications, LibreOffice office suite, Texmaker LaTeX editor, TeXworks TeX front-end, as well as the Eclipse and Geany IDE.
Bottom lineSumming up, ICABIAN uses GNOME Classic, as it main desktop environment, on top of a rock-solid Debian base. It is a portable Linux-based operating system that runs as-is directly from the bootable medium and can be easily installed on a local disk drive.
