HPC-Europa2 For Linux

HPC-Europa2 is an open source and freely distributed operating system based on the SliTaz and the Linux kernel. It has been designed from the ground up to be uses as a virtual cluster.

Trying to keep up with modern hardware and devices, the distribution will provide users with a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that has support both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

Being distributed as a Live DVD, the HPC-Europa2 operating system can be used directly from the bootable medium, being either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive.

In order to use it, you must download the ISO image from Softpedia or directly from the project’s homepage as a gz archive. Extract the archive on your Home directory or any other folder of your choice, burn the ISO onto a DVD disc using any CD/DVD burning software or write it on a USB stick of 4GB or higher capacity.

The first thing you’ll see when booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer is the boot prompt, where you can pass extra parameters to the kernel. It will also instruct you that the default username is tux and that the root (system administrator) password is root.

By default, the Live DVD will drop users to a shell prompt, where they have to login using the credentials mentioned above. After a successful login, you can read the documentation or use various commands to start the virtual cluster. Despite the fact that it states that you can run a X window system, the startx command cannot be found.
