GNUGuitarINUX For Linux

GNUGuitarINUX is an open source distribution of Linux based on the award-winning Debian Squeeze operating system and using a custom real-time kernel, specifically designed to act as an electric guitar pedal effect.

The distribution can be downloaded from Softpedia as a dual-arch Live CD that has been engineered to support both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms. This translates to the ability to run the OS on old and modern computers alike.

There are three options on the Live CD boot menu, which can be used to start the live system. You can start it with default drivers, in failsafe mode or by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM (system memory). A Help entry is also available if you want to view detailed information about the boot options.

The Live CD boots straight into the graphical desktop environment, which is built around the minimal and lightweight Fluxbox window manager. It features a panel that is located on the bottom edge of the screen and visible only on mouseover, as well as a dock (application launcher) located on the left side of the screen.

Being designed from the ground up to be used by guitar players, the GNUGuitarINUX operating system comes pre-loaded with different audio-oriented applications.

Among these, we can mention the Rakarrack multi-effects guitar processor, Guitarix virtual guitar amplifier, SooperLooper live looping sampler, Tuxguitar multitrack guitar tablature editor and player, as well as the Jackd2 sound server.

The Rosegarden audio, MIDI and score editing and sequencing environment, Jack Capture sound recording tool based on JACK Audio Connection Kit, Hydrogen advanced drum machine, gNinjam real time music collaboration software and GNU Solfege ear training software are also included.
