Fedora LXDE Live CD
Fedora LXDE Live CD is an open source and freely distributed edition of the Fedora Linux operating system, built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment. It is designed from the ground up to be used by people who want to transform old computers into modern workstations.
Availability, supported platforms and boot options
This Fedora flavor is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which have been engineered to allow users to preview the operating system without installing anything on their computers. It runs well on both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.
As usual, the Fedora boot prompt is simple, providing only two options. While the first one will start the live environment, the second one gives you access to many other options, such as the ability to start the live session in safe graphics mode, run a memory (RAM) test, and boot an OS installed on the local drive.
Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment for Fedora fans!
The Fedora LXDE edition provides users with a traditional and lightweight desktop environment, comprised of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can access the main menu, launch applications, switch between virtual workspaces, and interact with running programs.
Default applications include the ClipIt clipboard manager, PCManFM file manager, Leafpad text editor, Xarchiver archive manager, Xpad note-taking utility, GPicView image viewer, Midori web browser, as well as the Sylpheed email client.
In addition, it includes the Transmisstion torrent downloader, Pidgin instant messenger, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Osmo calendar app, Asunder Audio-CD ripper, GnomeBaker CD/DVD burning software, and LXMusic audio player.
All in all, Fedora LXDE Live CD is a decent and really lightweight operating system that features a traditional desktop environment with popular applications. It can be used on low-end machines and computers with old hardware components.
