Elemental Linux Server - The shell prompt of the Elemental Linux Server operating system
Elemental Linux Server is an open source and freely distributed Linux kernel-based OS that provides users with a minimal and reliable server-oriented computer operating system built from scratch and designed for old and very old computers.

It can be installed on 32-bit or 64-bit computers

The Elemental Linux Server operating system can be easily installed on any computer that supports the 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures using an ISO image that fits perfectly on a CD disc. An additional ISO image with extra software packages is available for download too.

Minimal boot menu powered by GRUB

From the minimal boot menu of the BASE ISO image, which is used to install the operating system, the user can boot an existing OS from the local drive or start the installation process. Please read the official documentation to learn how to install the operating system on your computer. Basically, you must login as root and execute the “setup” command to start the text-based installer, which will automatically partition the target drive and install the packages from the ISO image.

It features no package manager, nor graphical environment

Being designed to be as minimal as possible, the Elemental Linux Server distro features no package manager, nor graphical environment. Everything inside Elemental Linux Server is console-based and the user must install packages from .tar.gz files. In addition, all configuration is done manually by editing files in the /etc directory.

Transforms old computers into reliable server machines

The best feature of the Elemental Linux Server operating system is its ability to transform old computers into reliable server machines, thanks to the way it is built and optimized. It includes a very stable Linux kernel package and basic server-oriented software. Do not hesitate to grab the Extra ISO image, as it contains additional software packages that will make the distribution even more powerful.
