Ekaaty Linux Academic 5 Update 1
Distributed as installable only DVD images for 64-bit and 32-bit platforms
The Academic edition of Ekaaty Linux is distributed as installable only DVD ISO images for 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i386) hardware platforms. The images have approximately 2GB in size each, which means that the user must write them to either DVD discs or USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a PC.
From the boot menu, the user will be able to install a fresh copy of the operating system or upgrade an existing system, install the distribution with a basic video driver, rescue an installed OS, boot from the local drive, as well as to perform a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test.
Straightforward graphical installation process
The graphical installation process is straightforward and will require the user to only choose a language and keyboard layout, enter a hostname and configure the network (optional), select a timezone and configure the clock, add a root (system administrator) password, partition the disk, and select the packages to be installed.
Does not include any educational applications on the standard installation
After installation, it is a must to add at least one user, which will be used to log into the KDE Plasma desktop environment. We have to admit that we were surprised by the fact that the operating system does not include any educational applications on the standard installation.
Summing up, Ekaaty Linux Academic is a free Linux operating system that uses the productive and eye-candy KDE Plasma as its default and only desktop environment on top of a stable Fedora base. It is designed to be highly customizable and includes a plethora of educational applications.
