Dax OS Experimental is an easy-to-use, yet unstable Linux operating system that includes some of the latest, experimental technologies. It is based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution, the world's most popular free operating system, and uses the Enlightenment desktop environment.
The distribution is available for download as a Live DVD ISO image that has been tagged with the i386 architecture, which means that it can be used on either 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) computers, but supporting only 32-bit applications.
Default boot options include the ability to start the operating system in live mode using default boot options or the xforcevesa mode in case your graphics card is not recognized by the first boot entry.
The user can start the installer directly to permanently install the OS on a local disk drive, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.
As mentioned, the default and only graphical desktop environment of the Dax OS distribution is powered by the Enlightenment window manager, which looks superb and very clean. To access the main menu and launch applications, you must left click anywhere on the desktop. A hidden panel is provided on the bottom edge of the screen, but needs to be configured.
Default applications include the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Transmission torrent downloader, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, GIMP image editor, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, PiTiVi video editor, Parola media player, Decibel audio player, AbiWord word processor and Gnumeric spreadsheet editor.
With Dax OS Experimental, users will get early access to all the latest news and innovations of the system. But keep in mind that it is not recommended for production use!
Dax OS is distributed in several editions, for desktop, for kids, for elders and for bleeding-edgers. It includes popular and unique applications, a rock-solid Debian base and a modern desktop environment.
