DCMLinux For Linux

DCMLinux is an open source and Ubuntu-based distribution of Linux that can be used as a DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) workstation. It uses DCM4CHEE and the GNOME Classic graphical desktop environment.

Available as a 32-bit Live CD

You can download this Ubuntu-based operating system from its official website or through Softpedia’s secure server as a Live CD ISO image that has been tagged with the i386 architecture, which means that will support only 32-bit applications.

While the distro will boot on either 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) computers, it must be installed first. From the boot screen, you must choose to boot the first option, “Install DCMLinux.” You can run a memory diagnostic test or boot an existing OS from the first disk drive.

The entire installation process is simple and painless, thanks to the easy-to-use graphical installer that requires users to choose a language, timezone and keyboard layout, accept the Oracle license agreement, enter the MySQL, DCM4CHEE and ARR passwords, install additional add-ons (optionally) and partition the disk.

DCMLinux features DCM4CHEE as its default and only PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) server. The Mozilla Firefox web browser is also installed and it includes the iOviyam2, Oviyam2, Mayam, Care2x and Weasis add-ons, which can be installed during the installation process (see above for details).

Being based on Ubuntu, the distro uses GNOME Classic as its graphical user interface, which sports a two-panel layout and a basic set of open source applications.
