Yet another Ubuntu based Linux distribution, this time with the GNOME Classic desktop

editor's review

Cylon Linux is an open-source distribution of Linux derived from Ubuntu and using the classic GNOME 2 desktop environment as its default and only graphical session. It also includes the Unity and GNOME Shell user interfaces.

The operating system is distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

Users can download this Ubuntu-based distribution of Linux as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that supports both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

The ISO image features a standard bootloader

Being based on Ubuntu, the ISO image features a standard bootloader that allows you to start the live system with default boot options and drivers or in safe graphics mode, start the installer directly, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the first disk drive.

Jawbreaking graphical desktop environment for modern users with low-end computers

The GNOME desktop environment uses a modern, jawbreaking layout that comprises of a top panel, a bottom dock (application launcher) and some cool system monitoring widgets. It is designed with the modern user in mind, and it is suitable for low-end machines and computers with old and semi-old hardware components.

Includes a wide range of open source applications

The distribution comes with a wide range of open source applications, way too many to mention here. However, for your convenience, we’ll list some of the most important ones like BleachBit, Docky, Xpad, CryptKeeper, Firestarter, PCSX, Inkscape, KGeography, KMPlot, PlayOnLinux, Blender, Scribus, Hardware Lister, RawTherapee, GIMP, Krita, Pinta, LibreCAD, Dia, Rekonq and Tor Browser Bundle.
