ConnochaetOS For Linux

ConnochaetOS (formerly DeLi Linux) is a free, open-source and minimal operating system based on the Linux kernel and GNU software. It follows the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle and contains no proprietary drivers or software.

The distribution can be downloaded from its official website or via Softpedia as a CD ISO image that contains no live mode. This means that you must install the OS in order to use it.

The GRUB-powered bootloader of the CD ISO image provides users with the ability to boot the ConnochaetOS installation CD, as well as to shutdown or reboot the computer.

When booting the ConnochaetOS installation CD from the boot menu, as described above, you will be dropped to a shell prompt, where you must press the Enter key on your keyboard to access the text-mode installer.

The entire installation process takes place in text-mode and requires users to set regional settings, time and date, partition the disk, install the base system, set the language to use in the system, select a keyboard layout, enter a password for the root (system administrator) account, add a user and install the bootloader.

Reboot the machine and login with the username and password created during the installation process, in order to access the graphical desktop environment, which is powered by IceWM and Openbox window managers.

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the GNOME MPlayer video player, SimpleBurn CD/DVD burning software, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Sylpheed email client, XChat IRC client, Leafpad text editor and a custom web browser.

ConnochaetOS is a small distribution of Linux that tries to keep things as simple as possible, while supporting various hardware platforms. Keep in mind though, that it is no longer under active development.
