Welcome to the KDE edition of Bridge Linux, a free and open source distribution of Linux based on the powerful Arch Linux operating system and using the latest Linux technologies and applications, such as the modern, familiar and productive KDE SC desktop environment.

Availability, supported architectures, boot options

This Bridge Linux flavor can be downloaded from our website as Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported architectures (64-bit/x86_64 and 32-bit/i686), which can be burned onto blank DVD discs or written to USB flash drives of 1GB or higher capacity. Please keep in mind that the distribution comes with both stable and testing releases.

From the boot loader, the user can start the live environment with default options or by using the VESA framebuffer and nomodeset options in case the first entry doesn't recognizes some of the hardware components, such as graphics card. In addition, you can test your computer's memory for errors, view detailed information about your computer's hardware components, as well as to shutdown or reboot the machine.

Familiar and modern graphical environment with lightweight apps

As mentioned, KDE Software Compilation is in charge of the desktop environment of this Bridge Linux edition, providing users with a familiar and modern graphical session that uses a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where the user can access the main menu, launch applications, as well as to cycle between virtual workspaces and interact with running programs.

Default applications include the Chromium web browser, GIMP image editor, Qtransmission BitTorrent client, KMail email client, Kopete instant messenger, Amarok audio player, Dragon Player video player, Dolphin file manager, Konsole terminal emulator, SuperKaramba desktop widgets tool, Kate advanced text editor, as well as many KDE specific utilities.

Bottom line

Summing up, Bridge Linux KDE proves to be a very stable, reliable and productive operating system that uses a rolling-release model, thanks to the Arch Linux architecture, as well as the modern KDE SC desktop environment. Also, do not hesitate to check out Bridge Linux's GNOME, Xfce and LXDE editions.
