BirdOS is a new and freely distributed computer operating system especially created for the Scratch project. It is not a Linux kernel-based operating system and can only be used on top of Scratch. BirdOS is also distributed as a standalone app for the Mac OS X operating system.
The BirdOS operating system is bundled with two applications, Typer and Marble. While Typer is a text editor software based on the Notepad 3.0 application created by piguillaud, the Marble app is a game of marbles, well known from Scratch.
However, the best thing about this operating system is that it allows users to easily import new application easily. To import new apps, simply download an application from the official BirdOS app project and import it into BirdOS.
To use the BirdOS project, just download the latest source package, save it on a location of your choice and use an archive manager utility to unpack it. The entire system is distributed as a .sb file that can be opened with Scratch.
Those of you who own a Mac, can also download the BirdOS app for Mac OS X, save the ZIP archive on their desktop, unpack it, and copy the app file to their Application directory. Then run it like you run any other Mac program.
