Distributed as a Live DVD for 32-bit platforms
The BestBox operating system is distributed as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, designed to work on both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms. However, the user should be aware of the fact that is supports only 32-bit applications.
Please note that the use must burn the ISO image to a blank DVD disc or write it on a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of a computer.
Default boot options include the ability to start the live environment with standard drivers or in safe graphics mode using the xforcevesa option, start the graphical installer directly, run a memory test, as well as to boot the first disk drive.
Traditional desktop environment powered by LXDE
As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of this Lubuntu-based operating system is LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment), which provides users with a two-panel layout.
Default applications include the Audacious audio player, Midori web browser, GNOME MPlayer video player, Sylpheed email client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, guvcview webcam viewer, SMPlayer video player, LibreOffice office suite and Transmission torrent downloader.
In addition, the GIMP image editor, Inkscape vector graphics editor, PCManFM file manager, GPicView image viewer, Leadpad text editor and a bunch of games are also included.
In conclusion, BestBox proves to be an open source distribution of Linux that is very fast, easy to use, stable and reliable, based on an LTS (Long Term Support) edition of Lubuntu and built around the traditional LXDE desktop environment.
