Anubis-Linux is not a general purpose distribution of Linux, despite the fact that it is built around the KDE desktop environment and includes a vast amount of desktop-oriented applications. It can be used as a starting point for learning Linux.
If you’re new to Linux, the Anubis-Linux developers have prepared an easy-to-use computer operating system that will teach you the basics of Linux, as well as more advanced tasks, such as distro remastering.
It can also be used to learn how to program in C, C++ or ASM (Assembly), as well as to learn about various network security concepts.
The operating system reviewed here is freely available for download and use from Softpedia, as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (32-bit and 64-bit).
From the Live CD boot menu, the user will be able to start the live system with the default kernel (the perfect option for most systems), enable read/write filesystem (requires at least 1GB of RAM), start the live system in alternate mode (in case the default option fails) or with support for digital monitors.
You can start the live system with support for virtual machines, in failsafe or safe graphics modes, perform a standard or advanced system memory diagnostic (RAM) test, as well as to start the Darik’s Boot and Nuke (DBAN) tool to wipe a disk drive.
Anubis-Linux’s default graphical session is built around the KDE 3.5 desktop environment, which uses a traditional layout comprised of a taskbar that allows users to easily launch applications or interact with running programs.
It includes mostly KDE-specific applications. Login using the “demo” username and “demo” password (without quotes). The password for the root (system administrator) account is root.
