py_file_client For Linux

Dispite its strange name, py_file_client is an open source, simple, yet powerful graphical application written in Python and comprised of a client and server programs for easily and quickly transferring files from one computer to another.

The software has been created because the lack of a simple and effective Linux tool that lets users download files from one computer to another without cables, Samba or NFS (Network File System).

Key highlights include a reliable server component that runs in the background and has very low hardware requirements, a modern graphical user interface written in Qt, supporting for setting a default directory for both client and server, support for viewing hidden files, support for stopping the server for the client, as well as a log window.

First, you will have to download the latest version of py_file_client from Softpedia or from its GitHub page, save it in a location of your choice, extract it and open a terminal emulator. In the terminal window, use the ‘cd’ command to navigate to the location of the extracted archive files.

In order to use the application, first you’ll have to start the server by typing the “python py_file_server.py” command in the terminal emulator, and then connect to it using the client, by executing the “python py_file_client.py” command, both without quotes. The IP address and the port number will be required for a successful connection.

The program is written entirely in the Python programming language, both the client and the server, but it uses the Qt GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface.
