gbPPTPclient is a graphical interface to the PPTP VPN client.
gbPPTPclient is a graphical interface to the PPTP VPN client for Linux, built entirely in Gambas2 and is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 or later.
A lot of Linux users try to connect their pc to the VPN server at work. Most employers, however, provide VPN access by means of a Windows 2003 server, or another Microsoft operating system.
Those systems nearly almost use the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol, or PPTP.
Although a pptp client is available for Unix like operating systems, it is not always easy to configure. The main goal of this project is to provide an easy to install and easy to use interface to the existing pptp client.
So far tests with PPTP VPN servers on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP have been successful. Tests with Poptop and WMpptpd, the PPTP VPN servers for Linux, have not yet been performed.
First of all, I am 'just a webdeveloper' with no experience in C or C++ at all. Besides, I've been around for a while and I've had a lot of experience with Visual Basic in the past, so in my case, Gambas was the best way to get up to speed fairly quickly, without having to dive into a completely unknown (to me) programming lanquage. Last, but cetainly not least, with Gambas 2.0.0 being released now, I just think Gambas deserves a fair chance.
