OpenVPN Service Menu is an open source project that aims to simplify the usage of the OpenVPN software for connecting to a VPN (Virtual Private Network) server, by implementing an option in the right-click context menu of your KDE graphical desktop environment.

OpenVPN is a feature-rich, free, multiplatform, and open source Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution backed by the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology and created from the ground up to accommodate a wide variety of OpenVPN server functionality, including remote access, Wi-Fi security, and site-to-site VPNs.

With this small software, which is actually a single .desktop file, you can easily run any OpenVPN configuration file, in the .ovpn format, as an OpenVPN service. Of course, the OpenVPN client must be installed on your system prior to attempting running the script.

To install OpenVPN Service Menu on your GNU/Linux operating system, you will need to have the KDE 4.x desktop environment. Download the .desktop file from the dedicated download section above, and copy it to the /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ directory as root.

An xzm package is also available for download for users of the Porteus Linux operating system, allowing them to easily install the OpenVPN Service Menu by activating the openvpn-service-menu.xzm module.

Once again, we remind everyone that that the OpenVPN Service Menu project is specifically designed for the KDE SC (Software Compilation) desktop environment, and it does not work with any other desktop environment or window manager.

However, the good news is that OpenVPN Service Menu can be installed on any GNU/Linux operating system where the KDE desktop environment is available. It is independent of a computer platforms, so you can use it on both 32 and 64-bit installations.
