This project allows you to analyze TCP dumps generated by libpcap-based applications. #Network protocol #Requests for Comments #Netdude clone #Network #Protocol #TCP
Netmate is an open source, multiplatform, simple, easy-to-use, and free graphical software that displays network protocol headers in 32-bit aligned fields, exactly how they are represented in RFCs (Request for Comments). It is inspired by the Netdude software.
You can use Netmate to teach and learn about network protocols, as well as to understand their collaboration and functionality. The application supports input files in pcap and pcap-ng formats, as they are generated by the Wireshark software, the tcpdump tool, or other app based on libpcap.
The application supports a wide range of network protocols, among which we can mention Ethernet, SLL (Linux Cooked), ARP (Address Resolution Protocol), ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol), ICMPv6, IPv4, IPv6, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), and UDP (User Datagram Protocol).
The software is written in the C++ programming language and used the GTK+ GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. To install it on your GNU/Linux operating system, you will have to install GTK+ 3.x or later, download the latest release of the app from its official website or via Softpedia, save the archive on your Home directory, unpack it, and open a Terminal app.
In the terminal emulator window, use the ‘cd’ command to go to the location where you’ve extracted the archive file (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/netmate-0.2.0), run the ‘make’ command to compile the program, and then run the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it on your distribution. Open the program from the Internet section of your desktop’s Start Menu.
The Netmate application has been engineered to be cross-platform, which means that you can use it on both GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is currently supported on 32 and 64-bit computer platforms.
