The ktell utility is a user level daemon that monitors expiration time of Kerberos ticket granting tickets. It will send a warning to the user's least idle tty when a certain time is reached before the ticket will expire.

On a linux system with the 'pidof' utility, addition is a simple process. The addition of a simple check to your startup profile starts ktell safely. For example, on the bash(1) shell:

The checking interval and time before expiry in which to send a message are customisable from the command line.

if [ -x /usr/bin/ktell ] && [ "`/sbin/pidof /usr/bin/ktell`" = "" ]; then
/usr/bin/ktell
fi

will ensure that ktell is executed if you have it, and if its not running already.
