KVpnc is an open source graphical software that has been designed especially for the KDE SC desktop environment, as a universal interface for various VPN clients, supporting Cisco VPN (vpnc) and IPSec (racoon, FreeS/WAN).
The application provides an easy-to-use GUI (Graphical User Interface) that integrates well with the KDE desktop environment, offering system tray support, racoon support, FreeS/WAN support, PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) support, and OpenVPN support.
The software supports many VPN technologies and protocols, including preshared secrets, X509 certificates, L2TP (Layer Two Tunneling Protocol), NAT-T (NAT traversal), VTun, OpenSSH (TUN (point-to-point), TAP (virtual network adapter), Password, Keyfile, Ask pass gui), and Smartcard.
The software also supports VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections to Cisco concentrator and to various VPN servers, via the IPsec protocol. It supports multiple profiles, imports Cisco PCF files, supports ping tests, log file writing, provides a DCOP interface (Desktop COmmunication Protocol), and offers user-friendly notifications.
KVpnc offers powerful import and export features that allow users to easily import KVpnc profiles in the XML format, IPsec (Openswan, strongSwan, Freeswan) configuration files, OpenVPN configuration files, AVM Fritzbox VPN user configuration files, as well as Cisco, DER, PEM and PKCS12 certificates. It can export data to KVpnc profiles, in the XML file format, as well as to OpenVPN configuration files.
Another interesting feature is the ability to support virtual IP addresses, offering full compatibility with the IPSec (racoon (ipsec-tools), strongSwan, Openswan), OpenVPN, OpenSSH, VTun and PPTP protocols.
Among other interesting features, we can mention state-of-the-art user authentication functionality, supporting the OpenSSH, OpenVPN, PPTP, vpnclient, vpnc, racoon (ipsec-tools), Openswan and strongSwan technologies, support for multiple languages, HTTP proxy support, automatic connect on startup, keepalive and connection status check, and colored log output.
