An free, open source, minimalistic, yet very powerful, feature-rich and complete firewall Linux distribution based on Coyote Linux. #Network firewall #Network router #Wireless access points #BrazilFW #Firewall #Router
BrazilFW is an open source and small Linux operating system that has been entirely designed to be used for transforming an old computer into an efficient, fast and powerful firewall and/or router. It is derived from the Coyote Linux distribution and features automatic detection of network cards, support for old hardware components, as well as support for large capacity storage drives.
The BrazilFW Firewall and Router project is distributed as Live CD ISO images, supporting the 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architecture, as well as the 32-bit (i586) hardware platform, with or without PAE support. It can be easily installed and configured via its user-friendly web-based administration interface.
It is very important to mention here that all three ISO images are hybrid, deployable on CD discs or USB flash drives. You can write the ISO image that corresponds to your computer’s architecture on a CD media using any CD/DVD burning software or use the UNetbootin tool to write it on a USB stick.
When booting the ISO image image from the BIOS of a computer, using either a CD disc or a USB thumb drive, the user will encounter a boot menu, which allows him or her to boot the system with support for single or multi CPU configurations, as well as to perform system memory diagnostic tests for computers with single or multiple processors.
Immediately after the Live CD boots, you will be dropped to a shell prompt where you will have to log into the live system using the “root” username and the “root” password (without quotes). To remotely access the router, it is recommended to use a SSH (Secure Shell) client to connect to it on port 22. The web-based interface can be accessed by pointing your web browser to the location displayed on the shell prompt.
