logkeys is an open source, free and simple command-line application written in C++ and designed to act as a keylogger application for GNU/Linux operating systems. It is much more reliable and stable than existing Linux keyloggers, a bit more up to date than existing solutions, it doesn't unreliably repeat keys and it should never crash your X11 session.
In other words, the program just works. It as good as any other keylogger, but engineered to rely on the event interface of the Linux input subsystem. Once installed, the application will run in the background and automatically log function keys and common characters.
The software is engineered in such a way that it can recognize the AltGr and Shift key modifiers. Also, logkeys works well with USB and serial keyboards. Default command-line options include support for starting to log key presses, support for using the en_US keyboard layout instead of the default one, support for using a keymap file, and support for logging the output to a specific file.
Users will be able to use command-line options to kill running logkeys processes, to specify an input event device, to export configured keyboard layouts to a custom file and close the program, to log only character keys, to post logs to a custom URL or file, as well as to disable timestamps to log file lines.
Installing logkeys on a GNU/Linux operating system is an easy task, as you will have to only download the source archive of the project from either Softpedia by clicking the download button above or via its official website (see link below), save the package somewhere on your PC, unpack it, open the Terminal app, use the ‘cd’ command to go to the location of the extracted archive files (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/logkeys-0.1.1a), run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program, followed by the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it.
