Super Grub Disk
Super Grub Disk is an open source utility oriented towards system rescue tasks, specifically designed for repairing the GRUB bootloader of a Linux-based operating system. This edition supports only GRUB Legacy, for GRUB2 you should see the Super Grub2 Disk software.
It is simply a GRUB bootloader with various useful options that allow users to activate partitions, boot partitions, fix MBRs (Master Boot Records), and start an installed operating system (Linux, BSD, Windows, etc.).
In addition, users will be able to load the menu.lst file from a disk drive, automatically restore GRUB into the MBR, swap disk drives in the BIOS, as well as to boot from any attached disk device.
Features at a glance
The project features support for multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Catalan, German, French, Hungarian, Italian, and Slovenian. It is also possible to change the keyboard layout.
The first option (GRUB => MBR & !LINUX! (1) AUTO) is the most used option for beginners who just want to boot a broken operating system. It will automatically search for the first stage1 file, installs GRUB into the MBR, locates the Linux boot menu file (menu.lst) and boots the system.
While the second option (!LINUX! (1) AUTO) acts pretty much the same as the first one, with the exception that you can choose which stage1 file to install and which menu.lst file to boot. the third option (!LINUX! (>2) MANUAL) it only tries to find the Linux boot menu file and boots it, without asking any questions.
The fourth option (!WIN!) can be used to boot a Microsoft Windows operating system. Lastly, the fifth option (EASY LIVE SWAP) adds a syslinux boot loader to your MBR (Master Boot Record) that will replace the first active partition.
The truth is that Super Grub Disk is a deprecated software. It can still be used to boot broken GRUB Legacy bootloaders, but we strongly suggest to download the new and improved version, Super Grub2 Disk.
