Bran For Linux

Bran is an open source software project that aims to deliver a performant and reliable backup server solution in the form a server-oriented operating system based on the ALT Linux operating system and built around the Bacula backup software. The default language for the distribution is Russian, even though it’s name is inspired by Dracula’s Bran Castle in Transylvania, Romania.

The distribution can be downloaded from Softpedia as two installable-only ISO images, one for 32-bit computers and another one for 64-bit machines. It is mandatory to write the ISO image on a CD disc in order to create a bootable medium that can be booted from the BIOS of a PC.

From the boot menu, the user can start the installation with normal or safe settings, as well as to perform a throughout RAM diagnostic test and boot an existing operating system that is currently installed in the first disk drive detected by the BIOS. But first, choose between English US, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Russian or Ukrainian languages by pressing the F2 key.

The distribution boasts an easy to use graphical interface that requires users to set up date and time, partition the disk, install the bootloader, enter a password for the root (system administrator) account, as well as to configure the network interfaces.

Being designed as a server-oriented operating system, the Bran Linux operating system features no graphical desktop environment and can be used as a backup center for your organization. The server uses a web-based interface that is easy to use and can be accessed from a remote computer on the same network. It makes backup tasks a breeze!
