SMARTPOP is a free command-line software written in C++ and built to provide users with a fast and flexible utility for simulating population genetics for individuals with autosomes and sex-linked DNA.

SMARTPOP was originally designed for anthropological inference on human populations. It can simulate mitochondria, X and Y chromosomes. It supports studies of social dynamics, using social rules of mating and flexible demographic model.

SMARTPOP is an open source software designed to support the Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. It is available in parallel and serial versions. More documentation can be found in the official homepage.
