iDok is an document management system based on state-of-the-art open source projects.




iDok project is an document management system based on state-of-the-art open source projects. Initial releases of iDok have been developed by the IT department of Paul Scherrer Institute.

The iDok project aims to

create a software package for storage and retrieval of arbitrary documents that runs on all major platforms
provide secure access to the current and old revisions of the documents through established protocols like HTTP(S), WEBDAV(S) and CORBA
provide fast searching of documents by its full text content and by user-defined or intrinsic metadata

Multiple access methods to documents via graphical user interface (GUI), command line client and web browsers
Storage of arbitrary types of documents
Attachment of user definable meta data to documents
Fast, indexed full text search over document content and meta data
Access to old versions of documents
Read access from any web browser
Read and write access over webdav protocol using e.g. Windows web folders
Folder based access permissions to users and groups of users
Reservation of documents for exclusive editing (locking)
Automatic email notifications about changes
Internationalization of GUI

Modern graphical user interface client based on Qt Jambi technology
Guided, user friendly attaching of meta data using customizable forms and schema files
GUI support for mass entry of multiple documents with common meta data in one transaction
User definable views into the document tree by defining virtual folders with their own folder hierarchy.
Kerberos Single Sign On support, i.e. no extra password dialogs in Kerberos or Windows Active Directory environments.
On-the-fly PDF conversion of images
User customizable visibility and layout of dockable windows allow to define different GUI perspectives.
CORBA interface to administration and search functionality
Current implementation based on subversion, can therefore be used simultaneously for classical document management and as a software repository

What's New in This Release:

Numerous bugfixes and smaller tweaks made it into this version.
The PDF preview speed of the Qt Jambi client and the number of preview/conversion file types have also seen noticeable improvements.
