An Open Source GObject-based API for handling resource announcement and discovery over SSDP. #GObject API #Resource announcement #Resource discovery #SSDP #Resource #Discovery
GSSDP is an open source, free and small library software, an API (Application Programming Interface) based on GObject and designed from the offset to be used for handling resource discovery and announcement over SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol).
It is a component of the open source and object-oriented GUPnP framework, which allows developers to create UPnP devices and control points. Also part of the GUPnP project, are the GUPnP-AV and GUPnP-DLNA libraries, which are also available for download on Softpedia.
GSSDP can be installed separately, from GitHub or by downloading the latest source package from Softpedia, using the dedicated download section above. Save the archive somewhere on your computer, preferably your Home directory, and extract it with an archive manager utility.
Then, open a terminal emulator application and use the ‘cd’ command to navigate to the location of the extracted archive files (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/gssdp-0.14.11). Run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program.
Install it system wide and make it available to all users on your GNU/Linux system by running the ‘sudo make install’ as a privileged user or the ‘make install’ command as root (system administrator).
After installing GSSDP, which is a library software, you will also get a tool called GSSDP Device Sniffer (gssdp-device-sniffer). With this tool, you will be able to specify a network interface to listen to, as well as the X display to use.
GSSDP is written in the C and Vala programming languages and can be installed on any Linux kernel-based operating systems. It has been successfully tested on both 32-bit and 64-bit computer platforms.
For more details, do not hesitate to check out the GUPnP project, which is distributed for free on Softpedia and designed for creating UPnP devices and control points.
